Personally I have been receiving a lot of twitter spam during the last few weeks, specifically from a group of idiots who call themselves “the six figure team.” I am not even going to dignify with them with a link, I am just going to say that I hope one day they wake up to find that their computers have all been impaled with bamboo shoots, ya that’s right, bamboo shoots.
I started wondering if twitter had any plans to stop twitter spam, I mean how hard can it be right? Can’t you just look at the ratio of followers to following and make a pretty damn good educated guess?
So today I get another request from a follower, and if you know me but at all, then you know that I like to personally thank all of my twitter followers with a direct message. I click on the link of my latest follower request and then I see the following:
Please note this crackhead’s twitter following to follower ratio. Ya, that’s not a typ-o this schmuck is following around 1,400 people and only has around 16 people following him. Safe to say he is a twitter spammer? Oh I don’t know…what do you think?
More importantly is the text that appeared underneath the profile. It reads:
“This account is currently suspended and is being investigated due to strange activity.
If this is your account, or for more information about why an account may be suspended, see Suspended Accounts.”
I’m not sure how many of you have seen this before but this is my first time, and when I saw this, I almost shed a little tear (ya right). Does this mean that twitter is actually going to start taking control of its platform? Does this mean twitter is going to use some of their 15 million dollars of funding to combat twitter spam? Well I sure as hell hope so because I don’t think there is enough bamboo in the world to stop these spammers.
Thanks for reading, unless your a spammer, then you can go to spam hell!
