I have decided that every Friday is going to be “Food for the Soul Friday.” I have been wanting to do this ever since I created this blog, and now I am going to. The purpose of this is to remind myself that there is indeed a world outside of tech, to reflect on the week’s activities, and to provide all of you a break from the whole tech scene (not to mention preserve my sanity). So what does “Food for the Soul Friday” include? Well quite frankly it includes anything and everything. So without further adieu…

This week has been tiring, perhaps it is still the languishing tired feeling from last week’s web 2.0 expo that is causing me to be mentally exhausted. Perhaps it is the fact that I am working on launching an exciting project while trying to maintain client work and personal life. Who knows… But either way, I love what I do and I do what love. I have been under a bit more stress than usual because we are “re-balancing” our team, which is really just a nice way of saying we had to cut people. Not an easy task, but hey, when you are in stealth mode you don’t have time to deal with clashes. You need things done and you need them done right. I have a few exciting meetings scheduled next week and am then planning a brief respite in Lake Tahoe for a weekend with my beautiful girlfriend Lindsay. It was actually her idea and a damn good one! What can I say, she’s amazing and I can’t think of a better vacation than 5 days in Tahoe with her (maybe overseas somewhere? 🙂

For some reason I have also been a bit more…how should I say…contemplative. Not just about work, but about life in general. Wondering what the future holds and how I fit it. Time goes by so fast that you really need to enjoy life. So what if you work 60 hours a week and are making 7 figures. Is that how you define success? Tell me this, have you seen the world? Have you explored yourself? Do you know who you are and what are capable of? Have you gotten in touch with that old friend you haven’t spoken to in years? Have you spent more time with your friends and family? Have you been able to impact anyone’s life recently? What are you doing that defines who you are and how successful you are?

I want to leave all of you with one of my favorite songs from a band called The Cinematic Orchestra called, “To Build a Home.” Spend 5 minutes to watch the video, read the lyrics, take a deep breathe and let your mind drift. Then ask yourself, what really matters?

There is a house built out of stone

Wooden floors, walls and window sills

Tables and chairs worn by all of the dust

This is a place where I don’t feel alone

This is a place where I feel at home

And I built a home

For you

For me

Until it disappeared

From me

From you

And now, it’s time to leave and turn to dust

(Instrumental)

Out in the garden where we planted the seeds

There is a tree as old as me

Branches were sewn by the color of green

Ground had arose and passed it’s knees

By the cracks of the skin I climbed to the top

I climbed the tree to see the world

When the gusts came around to blow me down

I held on as tightly as you held onto me

I held on as tightly as you held onto me

And I built a home

For you

For me

Until it disappeared

From me

From you

And now, it’s time to leave and turn to dust

Thank you all for reading. How did the video/lyrics make you feel?
