Join the FOW Community “Future of Work Tweet Chat” Every Thursday at 4pm PST!

The FOW Community (future of work community) has grown quite a bit over the past few months and we now have around 40 companies from around the world. These companies come together to explore various topics such as millennials, collaboration, freelancers, workplace flexibility, mobility, and much more. The Disengagement Factory

Can you remember your first “real” job? I don’t mean the one where you worked at a grocery, a movie theater, or a telemarketing agency (I worked at all three). I mean your first job out of college where you had to write cover letters, interview, and negotiate a salary. I remember mine vividlu. After graduating college with honors and a dual B.A. in business management and economics from UC Santa Cruz, I ended up working at a technology company in downtown L.A. I was still living at home with my parents but was very excited to land my first job.

Last week, the FOWCommunity (that I helped created) held our first future of work forum in San Francisco. We had around 40 attendees that were hosted at the corporate offices of Udemy. The goal of the community and the forum is to bring together the world’s most forward thinking organizations to explore what the future of work is going to look like and what companies are doing to adapt. 5 Things You Need To Know About Telecommuting

The debates around open vs closed office spaces are continuing to heat up and I still think these debates are absolutely pointless. As I’ve said many times the debate shouldn’t be around cubicle or open space it should instead be all about workplace flexibility. That is giving the employees the option to work how they want to work and not how your organization tells them they should work. A part of this workplace flexibility includes telework, that is working from places other than the office. Dell, Aetna, and Xerox are among some of the most forwarding thinking and progressive companies when it comes to offering telecommuting options.
