I’ve been trying to find a good source for some recent twitter stats and came across this eMarketer article quite recently. As of late we have all seen that twitter is growing at an extremely rapid pace; now we have folks like Ashton Kutcher, Oprah, and Larry King all touting their twitter accounts. The question is how many people are actually using twitter?
Well here are some of the latest twitter estimates and projections:
The numbers speak for themselves and as you can see in 2010 twitter is projected to have just over 18 million twitter users, not too shabby. Compete, Comscore, and Nielsen also had their own projected estimates and numbers, however they are quite far apart from each other.
Keep in mind these are only US stats so the global figure is going to be much larger. Overall people that use twitter still make up a tiny group, however the growth is rapid and that should all change soon. I’m sure the twitter numbers will be watched with a keen eye as the growth continues.
What do you think of these numbers? Do you think the projections are accurate?
How could their stats differ so much?? Roughly 7K against 12M?! These statistics people need help.
You may not like the sound of this, but a thousand times a thousand is … a million 🙂
Also, you shouldn't compare 2009 to 2010 estimates.
Nevertheles though, 4M (comScore) vs. 8M (Compete) vs. 12M (emarketer) IS a huge difference…
