You may have heard of the Echo, Amazon’s new “virtual assistant” product/service that was just released. We all know of Siri and Cortana, two other popular AI products released by Apple and Microsoft respectively. In my opinion the Echo is far superior to either. I recently purchased an Echo, a voice activate virtual assistant that does everything from play music and read the news to create to do lists and order products from Amazon. It’s actually a fascinating little device that has dramatic implications for creating “smart homes” and “smart offices.” In this episode of the Future in 5 I talk about the potential impact that the Amazon Echo can have on our personal and work lives.

Oops, had Alexa in the room while listening to your video. Milk is now added to my list. Ps bit later Frank Sinatra songs started playing.. I do use the Echo daily. Want info that it can’t answer? Just say Wikipedia: Abraham Lincoln or whatever. It also calculates math problems quickly. I used that feature to figure out investment returns and current savings how those potentially affected my retirement planning.
It is already a game changer for thise with mobility issues or problems with fine motor control, etc. Voice activation is already a big deal to them. By the way, I was listening to NPR when I found your video. I told Alexa to stop and typed this comment .Then I said Resume and went back to my program at the exact same point where I’d paused it. Very convenient.
