The person and question

The shortest distance between 2 points has always been and will always be a straight line.  Translated into business this means if you want to know something, don’t bullshit, just ask.  If you just launched a social media campaign and you want to know how many of your visitors are getting their through social media…ask them.  This is 2009 guys, it’s so incredibly easy to get information from people, create a polling widget on your sidebar or after a customer purchases something on your site, ask them if they came there through social media.  Not everyone will answer but you should have a big enough sample size to understand how successful your social media efforts are.

When you want to work with a company you ask them, when you want to go out on a date with a cute girl you ask her (or at least I do), and when you want information from your customers…you ask them!  Don’t be a jerk about it, don’t spam, and don’t create a 20 question form field that you customers needs to fill out.  Ask what you want to ask, but do it so that it’s convenient to your customers.  You will be pleasantly surprised by the information that you get back from your customers.

How do you ask your customers for information?
