What’s Going on With Zappos and Holacracy

In this episode of the Future in Five I discuss the recent news about Zappos and the fact that hundreds of employees are leaving the 1500 person company as a result of its implementation of something called “holacracy.” For those of you who have not been following this story, when Zappos announced that they were going to redesign their management structure and implement holacracy, the CEO Tony Hsieh gave its employees what amounts to an incentive to leave by offering a three-month severance package to employees to leave they don’t like their new approach. Inside the Offices of LinkedIn

This is a very special episode of The Future in Five where I take a look inside the offices of LinkedIn. I also had a chance to speak with Pat Wadors, HR officer at Linkedin, whom I did a recent podcast with. Pat shared some very interesting insights with me as to why they chose this office style, which allows flexibility for a group of like-minded people solving like-minded problems to come together. We also got a chance to talk a little about Millennials who make up 70% of LinkedIn’s workforce, and her insights on corporate culture. We concluded with Pat giving us a peak into her day, what she’s passionate about, and the amazing places she sees LinkedIn going. We end this episode with a tour of the LinkedIn offices. So tune in and enjoy!

I share why I believe the dress code is one of the easiest things that organizations can do to lighten up a little and show that they are looking to be more progressive and forward-thinking. What is the dress code in your company and how does that impact you? Tune in and let me know!

What is The Biggest Barrier to Change?

In this episode of the Future in 5, I discuss what is the biggest barrier to change for organizations? In other words, why are some organizations not changing? When we think about the future, we think about Millennials, collaboration technologies, flexible work programs, or any of the many leadership and management models and approaches. The strategies are there. The tactics are there. The examples are there. The research is there. But, where organizations struggle is not not having enough information to be able to make these changes. […]
