When I was writing my book, The Future of Work, I created a framework for adapting to coming changes that I call “The Six-Step Process for Adapting to the Future of Work.” (It was inspired in part by John Kotter’s well known “8-Step Process for Leading Change.”) I will be exploring my six-step process on a webinar in a few weeks, but here are the steps and what they entail (They’re best thought of as a never-ending loop) […]
If you were to look up the word “work” in the dictionary, it would say something along the lines of, “to do something for someone else for pay.” Oftentimes synonyms for work include drudgery, daily grind, and struggle. It is this notion that we have built our organizations on top of for over the last 100 years. Do those synonyms still apply today? Work used to be one sided. We are moving towards a world where work is about an experience, a relationship, and doing something with a sense of purpose. […]
I define “employee experience” as an organization creating a place where people want to show up instead of assuming that people need to show up. This shift from “need” to “want” is the fundamental change that organizations around the world are starting to experience. My team and I just hosted another Future of Work Forum in NYC for members of The Future of Work Community (a global brand council where companies explore how the workplace is changing). We were joined by some brilliant speakers and guests including the CHRO of AARP, Chief People Officer of Cisco, CIO of Xerox, CHRO of Pandora, Head of Innovation at Sanofi, CIO of IBM, EVP of HR at Staples, Brian Robertson (the founder of holacracy), CEO of Frog Design, and many others. We explored many topics around the future of work including but not limited to freelancers, corporate culture, technology and collaboration, people analytics, leadership, change management, holacracy and much more. I wanted to share the top eight learnings from the event. […]
Recently the New York Times did a brutal expose on Amazon’s workplace practices which painted the company as an absolutely horrible place to work. Regardless of if you hate or love Amazon as a result of this recent debacle I think there are three key takeaways from this that we should all consider. […]

How long should you stay at a job before you leave and if you keep switching jobs is that a bad thing? I live in the Bay Area and I can say from looking at my Linkedin stream that people are job hopping like rabbits (at least here). Many people are concerned with how switching jobs makes them look on paper […]
