The recent Fedex interactions I have been having with people really shows how powerful social media is and why social media is such a beautiful thing. During the past few days the Fedex videos have seen over 4,000 views (just on my site) and have been embedded over 7,000 times (which means the number of views can actually be MUCH higher than the 4,000 that have been seen through my site). This also doesn’t include any syndication views (for example on social media today which has received 500+ additional views in one day).
I have received several emails and comments from Fedex employees, some agree with me and some don’t, which is fine. I don’t expect everyone to agree with me and it’s great to hear the opinions of people that actually work at Fedex. I have also received several great emails/notes from Fedex employees including one from Cindy who actually helps run the store where I had my cards printed. Tina from Allen, Texas offered to give me a full tour of their store, should I ever find myself in Allen. Nicole from Florida said that if I ever needed anything done that her store could do it for me and then ship it over to me for free (how awesome is that!), perhaps that’s why her store received a trophy and is ranked as one of the top 10 best stores nationwide for customer service!
In fact if Fedex offers, I would love to take a tour of their stores throughout the nation and do videos with employees, customers, and get some behind the scenes that go on. I think doing something like this would help make the brand a bit more personable and show people that Fedex employees love what they do and they kick ass at it, Fedex if you’re interested, you know where to find me 🙂
It’s really amazing to see that in under a week and with only 2 videos online, that such amazing things can happen. I’m still blown away that I actually received an email from Cindy who actually runs the store that’s just a few blocks from my place. Fedex has really shown me that their employees care about what’s being said about them online. Regardless if I received negative or positive comments, the point is that I received comments from people who care, and I love that.
If you take a look at the comments section in the fedex post you will see a wide range of comments from people, some supporting me and some disagreeing with me. That’s the beauty of social media right? My blog means my ideas, my thoughts, my videos, and my content. Nobody forced Fedex to respond to my videos and nobody is forcing Fedex to take any sort of action; yet they have clearly shown that are taking action…a lot of it!
I had no goal or “agenda” (as one apparent shareholder has accused me of having) for any of the videos, all I did is share my experience, that’s it. Several employees told me that I was unprepared when I walked into Fedex, other folks have accused me of trying to get something for free; that’s fine, but again at the end of the day all I wanted to do is share my experience. I always tell people it’s about adding that little bit of extra value that is going to make businesses succeed. If there are two coffee shops next to each other and one of them offers free wifi, then that’s the one I’m going to go into.
Yes, social media is crucial for your business as I hope this recent turn of events has clearly shown.
p.s. thanks for the chocolate covered grasshoppers fedex 🙂
