Has anyone else noticed a huge spike in useless facebook apps? I logged into facebook today and had several “notifications” telling me someone is challenging me to a quiz, someone else wants to cure facebook, and someone else wants to name their first born child after me (kidding). It’s just too much. I use facebook as a connection and networking utility, yet every time I go on facebook I find that I am spending more time “ignoring” app requests than I am actually interacting with people. This is contributing to my lower perception of facebook’s “networking” value. Now, I know facebook is still a valuable utility, but it can’t compare to the “adult” linkedin.
I am not going to say that I will stop using facebook, but I think that as more and more junk begins to pollute facebook, users are either going to request some sort of limitations or will begin to migrate to a platform that does not allow for the “kiddie” apps. I believe the college population on facebook far outnumbers the actual adult business professionals. This means that continued development and spread of useless facebook apps is inevitable and will continue, but for how long?
What are your thoughts on all the facebook apps out there? Are you getting irritated or do you just not care?
