In this video we’re going to talk about three things you can do to improve the technology aspect of employee experience in your organization. These three things are:
Have consumer grade technology
Invest in video communication and collaboration tools
Implement flexible work programs
In our personal lives we have great technology and tools–Twitter, YouTube, Google Docs, Netflix, Skype, Instagram, etc…These platforms are easy to use, they make our lives easier, they allow us to connect with one another and get things done. So why is it that when we get to work these technologies and tools aren’t available? Instead we have to use outdated tools and technologies from the 80s and 90s.
Having consumer grade technologies means providing technologies at work that reflect the year that we live in. Making sure your organization uses tools and platforms so beautiful, so useful, so valuable that employees would consider using something similar in their personal lives.

In this day and age a huge number of organizations have offices all across the country or even the world, we are also seeing an increase in remote workers and virtual teams. Because of this it is more important now than ever to invest in communication and collaboration tools to make sure that no matter where our people are in the world or what timezone they are in they can be a part of the team. And video tools are especially useful. Video tools allow us to see our team no matter where they are at and it allows us to communicate in real time.
Collaboration tools are also crucial and it is important to make sure employees have a way to communicate and collaborate with one another outside of email. It could be Asana, Slack, Yammer, Trello, etc…
It may seem odd to have flexible work programs on the list of technology improvements, you may think it fits better under the culture aspect of employee experience, but the reason I included it under technology is because flexible work programs are powered through technology. You cannot have a flexible work program without the right technologies.
If you want to implement flexible work programs you have to have great tools in place for task management, communication, collaboration, etc…
These are the three areas I think will dramatically improve your employee experience on the technology side.
