What is in this episode and what you should care:
Andrew Wilson is the Chief Information Officer at Accenture, the global professional services firm with almost 400,000 employees around the world. As CIO Andrew leads the company’s global IT operations where he not only helps Accenture employees (and also customers) with successful exploring and implementing increasingly advanced technologies. Earlier this year I spoke with Ellyn Shook, the Chief Leadership and Human Resources Officer at Accenture who discussed her close partnership with Andrew to drive the business forward while empowering employees. One of Andrew’s main jobs at Accenture is to make sure that employees have access to the best technologies to keep them connected, productive, and yes…even happy.
Andrew acknowledges that digital services such as Facebook, Youtube, and Snapchat have set the bar quite high for what an enterprise like Accenture must deliver for their employees and customers. Although Accenture does still use some legacy technologies like email, these are not the focus as their digital experience grows. Digital technologies are everywhere in our personal and our professional lives and Andrew is constantly trying to figure out how to create and deploy platforms that emulate the ones we use in our personal lives. This is something that I have talked about for quite some time and is one of the key components of the technological environment that make up the overall employee experience.
The digital worker and the digital workforce are here and organizations around the world have to figure out how to adapt. If Accenture is able to do this on a global scale with 400,000 employees (not to mention the additional contractors!) than so can you. Not adapting to these new ways of work can cause organizations to become irrelevant.
