I have to preface this by saying that I have a soft spot for human resources and really love HR people… But I’ve been speaking at a lot of HR conferences lately and everyone looks so defeated and glum. Why do HR people seem so unhappy? This is the most exciting time for business ever! And HR is the most exciting role and function in an organization today. HR teams get to be responsible for driving and shaping employee experiences and determining what the Future of Work will look like! So get motivated about what you are doing… develop a positive attitude and outlook about your position. Stop telling me about all of the things that you can’t do and take initiative to experiment with new ideas! It is time to bring the human component back to organizations. You can be that change agent by lighting a spark inside your organization. Start looking to do things differently.

I’m a big proponent of asking for forgiveness instead of permission. So stop making excuses – experiment with your ideas and when they catch on, executives will be supportive. The Future of Work is HR driven and that is something to be excited about. There is no need to wander through your work day like you are trudging through mud. Wake up and get your energy back! Start experimenting and testing ideas like the HR departments at Cisco, Accenture, and Adobe. They don’t worry about plans not working and just do it, making an extreme difference in their organizations.

If you’re in HR, what are you doing to drive change in your organization? Are you passionate about your position? Remember, what you are doing is meaningful and impactful so wake up!
