The commercial below is for Kaplan University and addresses how universities need to be using technology to adapt to the students.  Universities need to abolish old traditions and ideas and focus on “now.”

Here is the commercial

First off I think the Kaplan ad is absolutely great, and features  Uncle Phil from the Fresh Prince!  I think this commercial speaks volumes, not just for Universities but for businesses as well.  I’m talking about any organization that is trying to build relationships through spam, through ads, and through eyeballs.  I’m talking about every organization out there that doesn’t want to get involved in the social media space and thinks that social media is a fad.

I think it’s time for an organizational and traditional corporate shift in how we do business.  Companies today need to understand the new technologies out there and they need to be the ones  who are reaching out to the users, not vice versa.  Things are changing rapidly, and they will keep changing.  If your organization is focused on the traditional ways of getting things done, then it won’t be around for  much longer.  Businesses today need to understand the social media space, they need to understand how to build communities and how to engage and empower those communities.

The technologies are out there and eventually businesses are going to run out of excuses for why they aren’t participating.

Businesses today are failing their customers, and it’s time for them to change.

What do you think of the commercial and the idea?
